Islanders lead ice hockey
The Islanders beat the Bruins, 4-2, in a top-of-the- - table ice hockey game at the Big Apple rink during the week-end. The win put the Islanders ♦ at the head of the points table. Rangers stayed in third place by swamping AWA Hitachi Redwings, 11-4, in - another important game. In the Rangers-Redwing game, played on Friday evening, Drew Britz and the young Steve Fahey combined to score nine goals. Both Allen - Berke and Steve Bowden ' scored twice in a vain at- . tempt to keep the Redwings in the game. Scorers:— Rangers 11: D. Britz 5, S.

During the Saturday game the Islanders and the Bruins put on a lovely exhibition of the fast passing and smooth teamwork which typifies good irp hnrkpv Ned Kurbatoff opened the scoring in the first period and the Islanders held on to that slim lead until John Dowman tied the scores for Bruins in the second period. The final period remained tense until Jeff McDonnell (Islanders) scored twice and Kurbatoff got his second goal of the evening. John Dowman scored again for the Bruins, but they were unable to nar-
