Line to Coast reopened

Greymouth reporter The railway line between Canterbury and West Coast was reopened last evening on completion of repairs to a damaged section of track at Kokiri.

Work on replacing the line and wrecked sleepers on a 100 M section of the line continued throughout the week-end and into yesterday after 12 waggons of a goods train were derailed when coming through a crossing loop on Friday night. Some of the waggons lost their bogies and their loads in the accident Two of the waggons were described as beyond repair and will be carted away for scrap.

A small bridge culvert was also damaged in the mishap.
