Sir,'V. H. Anderson (June 30) should read some detailed accounts of early New Zealand history, particularly, in the area of the treatment of the Maori, As for the churches lowering their standards, how could they possibly do that in view of their barbaric history? His attitude towards contraception and abortion follows that of the Church, which condemns both but does nothing about countering the population explosion, except support the God-fearing , nation that declares its intention to continue the proliferation of. nuclear and chemical weapons indefinitely. The Old Testament has plenty of inherent evil for influencing the young, but is advertised as God’s own work. Television violence is definitely ,an abhorrence, but so is violence in any guise, anywhere, and one should not prove oneself morally selective in condemning only one aspect — Yours, etc., ARTHUR MAY.
