Nuclear stance
Sir, —Does the leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger, really expect us to believe the rubbish that he is promoting about New Zealand’s lack of defence because of the Government’s antinuclear policy? Since nuclear weapons have never, constituted a safe form of defence, we are defended now, from bur own resources, about as . well as we always have been.. Perhaps Mr Bolger should listen more carefully to informed public opinion here than he does to the United States State Department. The Schulz-Lange discourse ' made one thing very clear. By trying to press us so strongly on the ship visit issue, the United States has discriminated unfairly against us. Denmark and Spain, with policies just like ours, are readily accepted as members of N.A.T.O.—Yours, etc., COLIN BURROWS. June 30, 1986.
