Burnside battling in chess

Last year's runner-up in the A grade, Burnside High School, might be struggling to make the top four, play-off in this year’s schools’ chess competition sponsored by "The Press.” Christ’s College improved its chances of reaching the top four, beating Burnside, 42, in the third round. Christchurch Boys' and Shirley are on course for a place in the final, and Ashburton has good prospects if it can overcome Bumside in the final round of section play. Cashmere kept its unbeaten record intact in the B grade. Cobham A, the C grade titleholder, has the perfect score in zone one of the intermediate grade, although Christchurch South held it to 2% in the third round. Adelle
