PA Hastings The Housing Corporation is investigating claims by the member of Parliament for Hawke’s Bay, Dr Bill Sutton, that one man in the building trade had established a “pattern of incompetence” for at least three years before he left Hastings. Dr Sutton has asked the Minister of Housing, Mr Goff, to institute a full inquiry. He said he would ask questions in Parliament Dr Sutton has given details of three Hawke’s Bay houses which he said indicated a pattern of “deception, incompetence and use of legal action to keep people quiet” He was considering the need for legislation to protect prospective home owners from faulty construction. However, before he makes a decision he wants a clear statement from Mr Goff on what can be done. Dr Sutton said, “There is a lot that still has to come out about building standards in New Zealand.”
