Snails at trade fair
Snails will be one of the more exotic New Zealand products on show at a trade fair in Vancouver, Canada, which will begin on August 29. More than 20 New Zealand companies will be represented at the first Canadian-run Food Pacific trade fair. “There will be everything from snails to goats’ milk, to health food bars,
as well as the better known food exports such as apples, cheeses, kiwifruit, and of course, lamb,” said Mr Peter Finkle, a director in the Trade Services Division of the Trade and Industry Department. He said the trade fair was an ideal platform to push some of New Zealand’s new foods in the
North American market which was becoming increasingly important for New Zealand businesses. The fair is expected to l draw more than 25,000 trade visitors. Mr Finkle said the design of the New Zealand pavilion and the presence of one of Canada’s top chefs should attract a large percentage of those visitors.
