Prison visit up to embassy

PA Whangarei The French rugby captain, Daniel Dubroca, will meet the jailed agent, Dominique Prieur, this week if his country’s embassy agrees. The team manager, Mr Yves Noe, is awaiting permission from the French Ambassador in Wellington for Dubroca and a team official to call on Prieur during their stay in Christchurch.

Mr Noe said the meeting, proposed by the French Rugby Federation president, Mr Albert Ferasse, would be a gesture of friendship by French citizens to a compatriot and had no political significance. Dubroca would be accompanied by the team doctor, Dr Jean Penn, and would visit Prieur as a representative of his sport, not his Government.

“If a meeting takes, place it will because we have been given the authority by the embassy,” Mr Noe said.
