Wharenui’s swimming

A team from the Wharenui Club won an inter-club swimming carnival held at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday evening. The carnival was a new event designed to give swimmers more competition during the winter months. There were four teams in the carnival, two from Wharenui, and combined teams from the Avon and Rangiora clubs, and another comprising Christchurch, North Beach and Burnham swimmers.

The Wharenui Red team won the event with 128 points, well clear of AvonRangiora with 89 points. The other combined team was only eight points behind and Wharenui Blue had 71 points.

The carnival was swum in three age groups — open, 14 years and under, and 11 and under — and more tiian 80 swimmers were involved.
