Over-all handicap winner
The young designed yacht Rock-A-Bye (S. Rose, N. Cross), clinched over-all handicap honours when it posted second place in the final race of the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club’s, Epiglass winter series sailed on Lyttelton Harbour, on Sunday. The second place on handicap went to Russell Forward’s yacht Athenea, 13.39 points behind Rock-A-Bye, and the over-all line honours went to the McMillin group yacht, Southern Fun, with three wins from four races.
The final race was sailed in fickle winds, with Archon (A. and W. Archer), skippered by Gavin Cooke, making the most of the conditions to be
round the Parson Rock mark 30s in front of Southern Fun, with Natural Magic (I. R. Atkinson) in third place. In the run to the leeward mark, Archon’s lead was chopped back by Southern Fun, and Frank Simpson’s Farr designed yacht, Fireball, making the most of the difficult light conditions. On the final leg to the finish, the lead changed several times, with Fireball taking advantage of the wind change to pick up a light breeze to cross the finish line first, one minute ahead of Rock-A-Bye.
