League leaders win
The two leading teams, Manly-Warringah and Parramatta, had big wins in their Sydney rugby league premiership matches on Sunday. Manly maintained its twopoint advantage by thrashing St George, 52-20, and Parramatta easily beat Balmain, 32-4. In other Sunday games, South Sydney was held to a
14-14 draw by CronullaSutherland, and Canberra beat Illawarra, 26-12. On Saturday North Sydney maintained its bid for a semi-final position by upsetting Penrith, 22-18. Canterbury-Bankstown and Western Suburbs were to play in the Monday evening match and Eastern Suburbs had the bye.
