Matamata driver wins award

PA Dunedin Three days of intensive competition resulted in Kevin Thomas, of Matamata, winning the Jay-cees-Nissan Young Driver of the Year final in Dunedin on Sunday. He is, now the owner of a 1986 Nissan Pulsar, which he won with a score of 676 out of a possible 1000 points. Richard Cranswick, of Gisborne, was second with 591 points; Paul Andreoli (Hawera) and Chris Apse

(Dunedin) were third equal with 588 points. The competition included a written and practical first aid test, a driving test in and around Dunedin, and a practical drive round markers in a wool store. Andreoli said one test after a two-hour drive through forests was particularly realistic. The tests were comprehensive and difficult at times, he said.
