Coast breaks drought
PA Gisborne East Coast scored a memorable 10-6 win over Poverty Bay in a national championship rugby match at Gisborne on Saturday.
Coast broke a two-year drought with a fired-up, 80 minute performance which showed the benefit of better preparation this year.
Its backline was a delight to watch and the forwards bustled Poverty Bay, scoring two tries to nil.
The Coast side was a far different one from that which crashed 50-3 to Poverty Bay last year. Although its third win over the Bay in 15 years, it was Coast’s first on Gisborne soil since 1959.
