Devoy-Williams final

The three-times British Open champion, Susan Devoy, and Joanne Williams, of Eden-Epsom, will meet in the women’s open final of the North Island squash championships at Palmerston North today.
Devoy, the No. 1 seed from the Henderson club, beat an American, Alicia McConnell, 9-7, 9-2, 9-4, in her semi-final yesterday
while Williams, ranked No. 2, accounted for third seed, Donna Gurran (Remuera), 9-7, 9-7, 9-3.
There was an upset in the men’s semi-finals when the top seed, John Mills (Henderson), was beaten 3-9, 9-6, 9-6, 9-1, by the 1986 under-23 champion, Rory Watt, of Hamilton.
Watt, aged 20, will meet the No. 2 seed, Anthony McMurtrie, in today’s men’s final.
