Fastest Indy to Rahal
NZPA-Reuter Indianapolis An American driver, Bobby Rahal, grabbed the Indianapolis-500 lead two laps from the finish yesterday to win the fastest Indy in history, averaging 274.74 km/h. Rahal took the chequered flag 1.4 seconds in front of Kevin Cogan and 1.8 seconds ahead of. a two-time winner, Rick
Mears, both of the United States.
The previous Indy-500 record was 263.3 km/h. Yesterday’s race was run under sunny skies, after rain . forced postponements last Sunday and Monday. “When you win the Indianapolis 500, you’re thrilled for everybody. Heck, I’m thrilled for my dog,” said the 33-year-old Rahal.
