Sick seaman seriously ill
A Korean seaman who was flown from the Chatham Islands to Christchurch on Thursday evening was reported seriously ill in Christchurch Hospital last evening. Mr Ok Gi Son was flown to Christchurch in a Royal New Zealand Air Force
Andover aircraft after he was examined at sea by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Tapsell. Mr Tapsell, a qualified surgeon, was taken by a fishing vessel to the jointventure deepsea trawler Oyang 85. He had abandoned planned meetings
on the Chathams after he was told that the sick seaman needed urgent surgery after being hurt in a fall. After examination, it was decided to send the seaman to Christchurch Hospital for more tests.
Also on the flight was a woman who had miscarried and a man with a stomach complaint. The member of Parliament for Lyttelton, Mrs Hercus, who was in the Chathams with Mr Tapsell, also returned on the flight.
