Pledges still coming in

Donations pledged towards the proposed police kiosk in Cathedral Square are still coming into the bank, according to Radio Avon’s general manager, Mr David Clark. The appeal organised by the radio station pledged the $59,000 needed to build the kiosk, and so far, about $40,000 is in the bank. The Christchurch City Council will not start building the kiosk until there is enough money, and will not use rates. Mr Clark said yesterday Radio Avon would make

good any shortfall by raising more funds, and how that would be done would be decided next week. “The pledges are still coming in — but slowly,” he said. About $lO,OOO had been promised in goods and services for the kiosk. The 'council’s deputy general manager (works), Mr Harold Surtees, said only about $4500 of the goods promised could be used for the kiosk. The $15,000 still needed covers design and supervision by the council, and the council might contribute this.
