‘Switch-on' ceremony
Members of the Windwhistle Winter Sports Club at the Mount Olympus ski-field will have a special “switch-on” ceremony today to mark the changeover to electricity. The conversion to electricity has been the biggest project undertaken by the small club. Mr Michael Murchison, the club president, will officiate at the ceremony, which will also be attended by representatives of the Central Canterbury Power Board. It will begin at 11 a.m. This winter both the accommodation huts at Mount Olympus, near Lake Ida, will have electricity, as will the tows.
