Prices rising at wool sales
PA Wellington Wool prices continued to climb on Thursday at the Wanganui, Auckland and Napier sale at Seaview, Lower Hutt, rising 2.5 to 7.5 per cent.
The average weight and adjusted sale price was 472.18 c clean and 351.11 c
greasy. The market indicator was 472 c clean and 351 c greasy. The principal buyers were New Zealand merchant scourers and Eastern Europe, with support from Japan and Western Europe. The Wool Board bid on 3.5 per cent, or 592 bales, and
bought 118 bales. Of the 27,239 bales for sale, 13,795 came from Napier, 7124 from Wanganui and 6320 from Auckland. Seventy per cent was second shear, 17 per cent second shear oddments and 6 per cent lambs. Fleece and first lamb wool was up 2.5 to 5 per cent, second shear was up by 2.5 to 7.5 per cent, and second shear oddments by 5 to 7.5 per cent. The official range of prices is: Second-shear fleece 31 micron, 25/75 to 50/75mm: Good 453 to 461, average to good 441 to 457, average 426 to 454. 35 micron, 50/75 to 50/100mm: Good 464 to 500, average to good 463 to 487, average 458 to 482. 37 micron 75/100 to 75/125mm: super to good 510 to 522, good 501 to 514, average to good 483 to 498, average 479 to 494. 37 micron 50/75 to 50/100mm: super to good 482 to 497, good 468 to 495, average to good 463 to 480, average 458 to 475. Second-shear bellies and pieces. 35 micron 25/75 to 50/75mm: average 401 to 434, average to poor 356 to 384, poor 307 to 330.
