Malcolmson still to earn points
The Dunedin reinsman, Ali Malcolmson, will be compensated for missing a drive in the second race of the Newmans Air Drivers Championship, which begins with the first round of the series at Addington Raceway tomorrow. Malcolmson was to have driven Even Key in the Rawleighs Stock Food Mobile Pace, but as the Rakaia-trained gelding was the third runner to be scratched in the event, he was unable to transfer to an emergency. Malcolmson will be allocated the average of his total points for the first round in this event. Points for the series will be awarded for 14 for first, plus an additional bonus point for a winning drive, down to one for last. Generally, the honours should be evenly shared after the first round, with John Langdon and Pat O’Reilly, jun., in particular, likely to score well tomorrow. Langdon’s quartet of Tobago, Golden Mann, Vicky Mac Faber and Vicki McQuade, are all racing soundly. O’Reilly appears to have two strong winning chances in Dreamy Guy and Brimstone, while Fredericton and Some Event, are also capable of scoring well with peak runs in other races. The second and final round of the series will be run at Cambridge on May 2.
