Riccarton Town Hall renovations mooted
The Riccarton Town Hall should be renovated to provide recreational and community facilities, according to a survey made by the Riccarton Borough Council last year. Three-quarters of the survey’s respondents said that the idea of community involvement centred on the town hall appealed to them. One reason for this support was that Riccarton
had a high proportion of superannuitants, new arrivals, people living alone, and a tendency for households to have fewer members, the survey suggested. Among the other findings of the committee were the need to advertise available activities, and to provide child care facilities. The committee found a high degree of interest in neigh-
bourhood support groups. The results of the survey were to have been discussed by the council’s community affairs committee last evening, along with a proposed $58,000 renovation plan for the town hall. The committee decided to defer these discussions until meetings with the borough’s community affairs officer and architects could be arranged.
