Children’s library offered

Riccarton Borough could soon have its own children’s library if the council supports an offer from Wharenui School. Mr Dayle Hadlee, the school’s principal, has offered to open the school library for public use, provided the council pays for a librarian and contri-

butes to the cost of improving the library books. Riccarton has no public library catering for children and if the school’s offer were taken up the school library would be renamed the Riccarton Children’s Library, Mr Hadlee told the council. The library would be

available between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. daily, and a contribution of $lO,OOO in the 1986-87 year would provide the initial resourcing and employment costs. The council’s community affairs committee held the matter over for further study.
