Bunkers to hold I.C.I. chemicals

PA Wellington 1.C.1. New Zealand, Ltd, has begun a $l.B million redevelopment project at Seaview featuring bunkers for improved chemical storage. A company spokesman, Mr Chris Cole, said the project, due for completion in September, aimed to meet increasing storage demands. Safety features had been refined in the wake of the fire at I.CJ.’s Auckland storage facility in December, 1984, he said. The Seaview project included a compartmental

concept of 27 bunkers for segregated storage of chemicals. Each bunker would hold 192 200-litre drums and be built of precast concrete. Mr Cole said the bunker would also include a selfcontained drainage system and holding tank for spillage. The redevelopment would enable Seaview to handle projected storage volumes into the 19905, he said. 1.C.1. was planning to improve its fire-damaged Auckland plant and work would begin next month.
