Additional trophy

In addition to the winning stake and a trophy valued at S3N, the owners of Royal Adder, Mr G. A. and Estate A. N. Farry, received a gold ice bucket given to the Nelson Jockey Club by Mr Rod O’Connor to mark the occasion of the one-hundredth running of the historic race. The gesture by Mr O’Connor, well-known in Nelson racing circles but whose major breeding interest for many years has been in Clydesdales, was made because a cousin, Mr Jack Barry, had owned Hero, winner of the first Nelson Cup, run in 1882.
