Moana Isle for Trentham

Special correspondent Nelson Moana Isle will join her stablemate, Vail of Tralee, on a Trentham mission next week. The Leader of the Band filly easily won the Cameron handicap at the Nelson meeting yesterday. Moana Isle had easily won a highweight at Blenheim and will now be set for the Otari Handicap over 2000 m at Wellington. Vail of Tralee was allowed to miss yesterday’s assignment and will tackle the Cuddle Stakes. Moana Isle looks a useful prospect. She was bought by her trainer, Brian Ansley, acting for the Levin owner, Ray Newport, who had earlier owned the smart galloper Asaroe. Moana Isle was bred by Bill Cole at Matamata, who stands her sire at stud. She is from an Azeman mare closely related to Silver Boy and Sound Wave. Moana Isle left few excuses for the others, though Courting showed great courage to hold second after being very wide early and then chasing the pacemaker, Dana, which wilted to third.
