Vail of Tralee again
From J. J. BOYLE Nelson With No. 1 (Bundi Royal) out of the field those who played the numbers game had a chance to profit from the trifecta in the Ledger Goodman Memorial on
the first day of the Nelson Jockey Club’s meeting yesterday. Vail of Tralee, Lord Azure and Purple Reign,, Nos. 2, 3 and 4 respectively filled the places in that order at odds of over 140-to-one on the trifecta. This was Vail of Tralee’s third win on a South Island autumn campaign from Brian Ansley’s Levin stable. The first of those wins was at the North Canterbury meeting just before Easter. The Riccarton jockey, Barry Pelling, enthused over Vail of Tralee’s per-
formance yesterday. He > said the four-year-old had '■ pulled hard early but had relaxed beautifully to her race in the back straight and he was able to find a good run for her close behind Purple Reign. Purple Reign and Lord •? Azure took up the chase : after the pacemaking j Brook early in the run home but they could not - match Vail of Tralee for finishing speed. Vail of 4 Tralee won going away by a length with Lord Azure saving second by half a length from Purple Reign. ? None of the others was concerned in the finish.
