‘Gay’ discrimination vote ‘disappointing’

PA Auckland Allowing discrimination in any form goes against the grain of the Human Rights Commission’s work, says its alternate chairman, Mr Graeme MacCormick. He described as disappointing the Parliamentary vote discarding the section of the Homosexual Law Reform Bill which would have made it illegal to discriminate

against homosexuals. “I think it is disappointing that an element of discrimination which has nothing to do with whether a person is going to be a good employee or a reliable tenant has not been made illegal.” Mr MacCormick said he imagined a number of members of Parliament had thought the community was not ready for the provision.
