Supervision of children

Sir,—Yesterday a girl came to the door to sell Girl Guide biscuits. She was alone, carrying not only the biscuits but a carton containing bank notes as well as coins from her sales. Any adult who, I am told, supervises each street on these occasions, would be powerless from a distance to prevent a snatch-and-grab assault on the child. But worse dangers are possible when she calls on the now many houses situated along and behind driveways leading to the back sections. Obviously the Guide movement could not supply an adult to accompany each child, but would it not be possible for parents to make sure that their daughters are protected against any kind of molestation? — Yours, etc., E. GAINSBOROUGH. March 16, 1986.
