Delay in shift to new school
Delays in finishing the new Christchurch Girls’ High School buildings are not causing any problems at the school, says the principal, Miss Joan Prisk. Miss Prisk said teachers were taking advantage of the delay to take care of all the administrative tasks the shift would create. However, the timing could make the actual shift more difficult, she said. Originally the new school was to be finished last October. The long summer vacation would have been used to make the shift to the Deans Avenue site. The finishing date was then changed to March, with the shift timed for
the May school holidays. Further delays now mean that the new school will not be ready until the second term. The general manager of the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council, Mr Malcolm Richards, said the delays were caused through difficulty In coordinating the work of sub-contractors. He hoped the shift could be made during the mid-term break, in July. This might mean that, pupils would have an extra one or two days holiday while the changeover took- place, he said. “It may even be that a number, if not all, of the pupils may be involved in shifting," he said.
