John Wright set for second test
Canterbury’s lefthanded opening batsman, John Wright, seems certain to play in the second cricket test against Aus-
tralia at Christchurch starting on Friday. The New Zealand assistant manager, Glenn Turner, said last night that Wright had Improved considerably since pulling out of the first test with a back injury. “He had an indoors net down here today and he felt okay. All we have to do is wait and see if he gets a reaction,” said Mr Turner.
“He feels a lot more
confident now than I think he did. So we have got to assume that he will be right for the second test.”
Auckland’s Trevor Franklin is likely to drop out of the 12 for Christchurch if Wright’s back has fully recovered. The only other slim chance of a change could be the possible return of Jeff Crowe, who was omitted as a first slip specialist during the test. The national selectors Frank Cameron, Don Neely arid John Guy may
name their second test
side later today.
