Big catamaran fleet

A fleet of 30 catamarans contested the first four races of the eight-race Canterbury championship series sailed at Akaroa at the week-end. Warren Guy and Nick! Whall, sailing their Hobie 16 Catamaran, lead the competition in the Hobie 16 class after four closely contested races, with two wins, a second, and a third place, with 3.5 points. In the Hobie 14 championships Dave McMaster, a former Canterbury champion, sailed his way to two wins, a

second and a third, to lead his class by 3.5 points from Andy Peryer, the series favourite, with 5.5 points. Also raced in conjunction with the Canterbury championships was the Akaroa classic, won by John Schurink, sailing his Hobie 14 catamaran on handicap. Results:— Hobie 14 championship: Over-ail standing after four races: D. McMaster 3.5 points, 1; A. Peryer 5.5, 2; J. Schurring and G. Fagan 8, equal 3.

Hobie 16 championships: Over-all standings after four races: W. Guy and N. Whall 3.5, 1; C Nimb and R. Taylor; and R. and A. Louden, 6.75, equal 2. Hobie 18 championship: Over-all standings after four races: P. Platt and G. Smith, Akaroa classic: J. Schurlnk, 1; B. and G. Wilson, 2; R. and A. Louden, 3.
