Heathcote soon to harness wind

Work will begin on a wind-powered electricity generator in Heathcote County within the next six weeks.

The windmill shaped generator will be installed on a remote area of Huntsbury Spur in Bowenvale Park. It will be one of the first commercial ' windpowered electricity generators in New Zealand, Heathcote County. Council’s engineer, Mr lan Bywater, said work could

now begin because the closing date for planning objections had passed without any being lodged.

The council’s staff will lay the foundations for the generator which will be installed by a Swedish multi-national electrical company, A.S.E.A. Electricity will be fed into the national grid through a nearby highvoltage line. Mr Bywater said the generator was expected to be built by June.
