Footwear workers get 17 p.c. pay rise
Most leather footwear workers have won a 17 per cent wage increase, bringing their hourly gross wage after 18 months service to $5.91. The president of the Footwear Workers’ Federation, Mr Toby Jordan, said that the new minimum weekly wage for
adult workers was $220.80, while the highest rate, for a bespoke worker, was $2BB. The biggest percentage increase was for workers with less than six months service. Their wages went up 17.6 per cent to give them an hourly rate of $5.52.
