Bye Bye Mary appeals at Hutt

Special correspondent Wellington The combination of the trainer, Jim Breed, and the driver, Maurice McKendry, has met with considerable success at Hutt Park in recent times and they could gain further rewards with Bye Bye Mary tonight.’ The mare contests the N.Z.P.G.A. Mobile Pace, first leg of the T.A.B. double on the opening night of the Wellington Trotting Club’s three-night fixture.

Bye Bye Mary has recorded all three of her wins on the Hutt Park track. They came at this meeting last year when she won the two heats and the final of the three and four-year-old Graduation Series, driven on each

occasion by McKendry. The Bye Bye Song mare comes to Hutt Park after two good efforts at ManawatU, running second to Lyn’s Song on the first night and filling a similar placing behind Stepdon on the second.

She has drawn favourably on the front line tonight and is expected to race prominently throughout.

Stepdon was winning his third race in succession when successful at Manawatu. He has subsequently failed at Stratford but had to start from 30 metres behind on that occasion. He has not been helped by a second row draw tonight but could not be discounted.

Capricorn Star is a promising mare which

has won three of her eight career starts to date. She has been off the scene since winning at Cambridge in November but is expected to parade in a forward condition. The South Island visitor, Clover, makes most appeal in the second leg, the Bayer Rintal Mobile Pace. She won well at Waterlea on February 10 and then returned a good effort at Addington on Saturday after a chequered run. She has fared poorly in the draw again but must still be rated highly.

Chance Decision ran an improver’s race at Addington on Saturday while African Man, a previous winner on the track, has shown promise. Charlotte Trixie and Tenner Reef are other chances.
