Exports drop in value

PA Wellington The Export Institute is concerned about a slowdown in the growth of exports over the last three months of 1985, says its national president, Mr John Lister. From September 1 to December 31 exports dropped in value by 1.5 per cent compared with the same period in 1984. “We are determined to revive interest and optimism throughout the export sector, both among our own members and the wider business community,” Mr Lister said.

The institute’s forthcoming national briefing sessions, entitled "Export Challenge 86,” indicated a new attitude -to encourage renewed export growth this year.

The institute had already had to change the venue for the first seminar, to be opened by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill, on February 24, to cope with more exporters than originally expected. “We hope this is a sign of a more consolidated approach from New Zealand’s exporting industry in the future,” Mr Lister said.
