Walker yet to decide

PA Auckland John Walker will run the 800 and 1500 metres at next month’s national track and field championships, but he has yet to decide whether to chase a place in the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games team. Before leaving on his present tour of the United States and Canada, Walker asked the Auckland selectors to include him in the team for the New Zealand championships. The request was readily

agreed to, but according to Walker’s long-time coach, Arch Jelley, the Olympic 1500-metre gold medallist has yet to make a decision on whether (or in which events), he’will make a bid for the Games team. ' Troubled by a chest complaint, Walker struggled through his first couple of races on his present campaign, but has found better form, recently running 7min 58s in finishing a -close third in a 3000 m indoor race in New York.
