How Kumba outwitted the tiger

By

JULIET GREIG,

, aged

10.

Kumba was a keen adventurous chap, who lived happily with his pretty wife in a small Indian village. My story starts on one hot afternoon. Kumba was unusually bored as he walked through the village. He wanted adventure. So without telling his pretty wife, he set off into the deadly jungle. Now little did he know a malicious beast of a tiger was peering hungrily at him from through the grass. This tiger was a

proud vain animal, and thought himself “The Best of Beasts.” He got ready to pounce... But Kumba turned and saw its big yellow eyes staring wantingly at him, Kumba had to think fast! Then, as quick as you could say, “big white teeth,” he climbed up a banana tree. Now this was one of the tiger’s faults. He was so heavy he couldn’t climb trees. Kumba had already thought up a plan. “Hey, tiger,” he screamed, “I don’t want

to be eaten by a little tiger like you, I want to be eaten by the x biggest tiger in the jungle!” The beast was utterly shocked. “Alright,” he growled angrily, “If I am not the biggest tiger in the jungle let us summon my brothers and cousins, and let us compare!” So Kumba climbed to the top of the banana tree, and shouted, “Ali, Ali, Bula. I summon all the tigers of the jungle.” In a few minutes, roars

were heard from dozens of angry tigers. Kumba told them, they had to «• decide which was to have the pleasure of eating him. “I am certainly the big- ./ gest!” remarked a proud one in the middle. G' "Fiddlesticks!” roared -■ another one. “I am the ? biggest!” Very soon a fight be- ■ gan. While the fight was nearing a climax Kumba -*■ climbed quietly back -• down the tree, and ran his ' fastest back to his pretty wife and bamboo hut. '
