Rollercoaster petition
Another 98 New Brighton residents added their names last evening to the list opposing Queen Elizabeth II Park’s rollercoaster.
Cr Kathie Lowe presented another petition against the rollercoaster, which residents say is excessively noisy.
The rollercoaster has so
far passed sound tests by council staff.
However, the operator, Mr Bill Finnerty, has agreed to investigate nylon wheels for the coaster, to restrict its hours of operation, and to purchase a new passenger vehicle.
Cr Lowe presented a series of sound readings,
taken on the residents’ behalf. She asked that these be considered because the readings were high compared with levels acceptable for background noise.
Further noise tests will be made on the coaster after improvements are made.
