Brunei, N.Z. linkage
Brunei, one of the world’s smallest but wealthiest countries, will forge diplomatic links with New Zealand today. The Sultan of Brunel, Sir Hassanal Bolkiah, has appointed Mr Lim Jock Seng as Brunei’s first High Commissioner to New Zealand.
Mr Lim will present his credentials to the Gover-nor-General, Sir Paul Reeves, in Wellington today.
Mr Lim was formerly director-general of the Association of South-East Asian Nations.
He gained a bachelor of science degree at the University of Wales in 1969 and a master of philosophy degree at the London School of Economics in 1981. He has held various Government posts in Brunei, including being director of museums.
Brunei, on the northwest coast of the Island of Borneo, population about 214,000, was granted independence from Britain in January, 1984, and gained entry to A.S.E.A.N.
Mr Lim will live in Brunei, and visit New Zealand frequently.
