Beckenham learns about flood plan
Beckenham residents had the chance to see at a public meeting last evening how they would be affected by the Christchurch Drainage Board’s proposed flood-control measures for the Heathcote River. The flood-control scheme favoured by the board is aimed at flooding relief in the previously affected areas of Beckenham but proposed river channel changes will affect the riverside environment. After the meeting the
chairman of the Beckenham Neighbourhood Association, Mr Andrew Wilson, said the reaction had been mixed.
Representatives of the board and the architect of an environmental impact report on the proposals addressed the 75 people who attended. Mr Wilson said he hoped people would now let the association know how they felt so that it could make submissions to the board’s February meeting.
