First composer
A young Auckland woman has been named as the first composer-in-residence at the Nelson School of Music. Twenty-three year old Leonie Holmes has just completed a masters degree with first class honours at Auckland University. She will take up the one-year Nelson residency at the beginning of the 1986 school year in February. The new composer-in-residence programme is the result of a collaboration between the Nelson School of Music and the Queen Elizabeth II Arts
Council of' New Zealand. The School will host the composer and provide the music resources. The Arts Council will provide the
composer’s monthly stipend. Leonie Holmes is no stranger to Nelson. For the last three years, she has participated in the Composers Association’s annual young composers, workshop in Nelson where she has had two of her compositions prem-
iered. She has also had her work broadcast by Radio New Zealand and has been featured on the Concert Programme’s New Music Survey.
