Pipe band festival popular

The ninth Festival of Pipe Band Music drew bands from throughout Canterbury to Ashburton

church. Methven will compete for national grade three honours at the national pipe band championships at Wellington in February. The grade-two street march, medley and aggregate was won by Temuka.

Christchurch Metropolitan and Canterbury Caledonian were second and third respectively. Canterbury Caledonian, the only grade one entry, won the open handicap piping and the Harmonica Bank Trophy for the open handicap aggregate. Temuka and Methven shared the open handicap drumrr£2g title.
