The condition of Canterbury rivers as reported by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society are: Waiau: milky, fishable, Hurunui: slightly milky, fishable, Ashley: clear and fishable, Waimakariri mouth: slightly milky, marginal, gorge: slightly milky,
fishable, Selwyn: clear, fishable with green lake water encroaching up-river, Rakaia mouth: discoloured, not fishable, gorge: slightly discoloured and fishable. All flows, supplied by the North Canterbury Catchment Board, are in cubic metres per second.
