Don’t delay, parents told

PA Wellington The Social Welfare Department has advised parents who want advances on their family benefits for school uniforms to apply soon. The department’s divisional director for benefits, Mr Alan Nixon, said applications took several weeks to process so parents must be quick if they wanted the

advance before the school year began. He said 8960 requests were approved last year but did not expect the same demand this year. “It’s too early to get detailed statistics but there are indications that suggest there will be less this year, probably due to Family Care,” he said.
