PA Dunedin A three-quarter-hour deliberation by the protest committee was a decisive factor in the crowning of the 1986 national under 18 boys softball champions today. With Auckland leading, 3-1, in the fourth innings of the second final, enforced when Hutt Valley took its first life with a 5-0 victory in the first final, the Hutt Valley pitcher, Jimmy Seaman, clouted a mighty hit which the centre field, Darren Callott, caught going over the fence. As Hutt had two runners on base it could have taken the lead but the protest committee in favour of Auckland
leaving the score at 3-1. Although Hutt Valley continued to put bat to ball, it was unable to hit safely and score runs. Results: Southland 8, Bay of Plenty 7; South Otago 0, Wellington 10; Hutt Valley 10, Otago 0; Canterbury 4, Auckland Id, North Shore 9, South Otago 8; Wellington 6, Southland 0; Bay of Plenty 3, Canterbury 5;- Otago 7, North Shore 4; Auckland 0, Hutt Valley 5; Auckland 3, Hutt Valley 1.
