AUSTRALIA Bulls ran on industrial

PA Sydney Australian sharemarkets closed firmer as the market absorbed the negative news of the last two days andindustrial stocks continued their bullish run, brokers said. At the close of trading the all ordinaries index had risen 1.7 points to 1050.6, the all industrials index had gained 2.4 points to a record 1549.1 and the all resources index had added 1.1 points to 665.6. The gold index lost 5.3 points to 948.8. Turnover was 44M shares worth $66.6M, with falls outnumbering rises by 222 to 181. About 3.3 M Pioneer Concrete shares were crossed, the bulk of them in special sales in Melbourne, providing the highlight oftrading. The stock remained at 270. BHP traded moderately, reaching a high of 896 and a low of 888 before closing steady on 894. Among other market leaders, CSR added 2c to 372 and Bell Resources remained steady on 580. The mining sector eased, but some major miners pulled back earlier losses. CRA closed 4c up at 586, Western Mining 4c down at 356, North Broken Hill 2c down at 248 and Comalco 7c up at 300. Gold-relatea stocks also eased with the exception of Central Norseman, which added 10c to 730. Emperor lost 5c to 355 and Sons Of Gwalia the same to 330. In the oil and gas sector Santos dropped 2c to 534, Magellan 10c to 220, Ampol Exploration 10c to 250 and Peko Oil 1c to 76. FAI was the prime mover on the industrial board, adding 20c to 560, while Lend Lease put on 10c to 640, APA 8c to 660, Johns Perry 4c to 540 and Bond Corp 10c to 210. lEL dropped 14c to 730, Arnotts 5c to 345, Fairfax 6c to 710 and AWA 10c to 570 in thin gtrading. About 2.3 M Comsteel Vickers shares were traded and the stock remained at 135. Major banking stocks traded mixed with the National Australia Bank up 5c to 475, ANZ up 2c to 470 and Westpac off 2c to 457.
