Thumbs up for odds in Golden Kiwi
PA Wellington If you received a Golden Kiwi ticket for Christmas, you have a better chance of winning a prize compared with building societies and Post Office Bonus Bonds, a Consumers’ Institute survey shows. The chances of winning the main prize in the Kiwi are 250,000 to one for a $2 ticket, with the odds for winning the main prize in a Bonus Bonds, draw at 486,000,000 to one for each $1 bond. The United Building Society has a $lO,OOO cash prize draw once a month and the odds for winning
are 350,000,000 to one for every dollar invested. United also offers a weekly draw where investors can double their accounts up to a maximum of $lO,OOO, with the odds for this draw 12,000 to one. Countrywide offers the same scheme but because United draws 25 prizewinners a week to Countrywide’s 30 or 40, Countrywide’s odds are better at 2000 to one, Consumers’ Institute says. The odds for winning a prize with a $2 Golden Kiwi ticket are one in 69, while Bonus Bonds are one in 10,000 for each $1 bond.
