Titanic tennis struggle
NZPA-AP London Heinz Gunthardt and Balazs Taroczy won the SUS2OO,OOO ($400,000) world doubles tennis championship for a record third time yesterday when they beat the Australian Open champions, Paul Annacone and Christo Van Rensburg, in a titanic five-set struggle.
Winners previously in 1982 and 1983, and the reigning Wimbledon doubles champions, the European partnership won, 6-4,1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 in three-and-a-half hours on the supreme surface at the Royal Albert Hall to clinch the $U572,000 ($144,000) first prize.
