New Coast brew

Monteith’s, a draught beer developed by the DB Westland Brewery, Greymouth, has been well received and sales are encouraging, says the managing director of Dominion Breweries, Ltd, Mr James Fletcher, in a half-yearly report. Another new product which has had encouraging sales has been the Special Draught, a low alcohol beer, developed to meet a growing market demand.

“The outlook for the remainder of the financial

year is unclear. The beer market is highly competitive. There are signs that demand is flattening because of various factors ...” The company has carried on with its policy of selling taverns and beer-oriented hotels which are not regarded as strategic, he says. At the same time development continued on new taverns in Newmarket (Auckland) and Tauranga, and refurnishing of existing outlets was carried on throughout the country.
