Kircher to fore in cycling
The Ashburton rider, Darryl Kircher, provided the highlight of Wednesday night’s track cycling meeting at Denton Park with a slick win in the open 8000 metres. A number of breaks early on resulted in the field being reduced to seven riders in the last few laps before Mark Lucas broke clear and stretched out a lead of 70 metres. On the last lap Kircher left the bunch ana tore after Lucas, catching him yards short of the line. Novice honours on the night went to Tim Carswell who gained two wins and two seconds. Dale Edwards finished strongly to win the junior 1000 metres scratch and 4000 metres B grade scratch. ResultsSenior, a grade: 1000 metres scratch: A. Lauder 1, D. Kircher 2, W.
